What does it mean?
An inspection report (besiktningsprotokoll) is the formal documentation of an apartment's condition at move-in or move-out. The report lists room by room all existing damage, wear, and defects — floors, walls, ceilings, appliances, bathroom, kitchen, windows, and doors. Both tenant and landlord should walk through the apartment together and sign the report.
The report is your most important protection in potential disputes about damage. Without a move-in report, it is difficult to prove that damage existed before you moved in, and you risk being held liable at move-out. Always supplement the report with dated photos and store everything digitally. If the landlord does not offer an inspection, insist on one or create your own documentation.
